Cantina Conversation on Mental Health and the Video Game Industry
Friday Aug 30, 2019
Friday Aug 30, 2019
In this Cantina Conversation, Steve and Ken get a chance to have an in depth discussion with three board members of TakeThis.org. Take This is a nonprofit organization that seeks to decrease the stigma, and increase the support for, mental health in the game enthusiast community and inside the game industry. We have Eve Crevoshay, executive director, Dr. Raffael Boccamazzo, clinical director, and Dr. Rachel Kowert, research director. We review a recent white paper published on the State of the Industry which focused on mental health risk factors of the developers and employees in the gaming industry. The paper provides great insight into the negative effects of overwork/crunch, job instability, social media harassment, and a lack of diversity plays on the mental health of those in the gaming industry. We also discuss the recent shootings and whether violent games contributes to the violence we see in society today. These are important topics, leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
Visit takethis.org to keep up to date on challenges facing both game enthusiasts and individuals inside the industry. Find out more about how to get involved at https://www.takethis.org/get-involved/
You can read the complete white paper for yourself at https://www.takethis.org/programs/industry-research/state-of-the-industry-white-paper/
